  • To Minimize Bruising:
    • Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, & fish oil for 2 weeks prior to your treatment. (Note: If your personal physician prescribed you aspirin, do not stop without approval from your prescribing MD.)
    • Do not drink alcohol for 3 days prior to your treatment.
    • Take arnica orally 1 week prior & 1 week after your treatment. For the best results, we recommend our physician strength arnica that is not available over the counter.
  • To Minimize Risk of Infection:
    • Your face should be clean and free of makeup.
    • Area to be treated must be free of active cold sores, rash, or infection.
    • If you have a history of cold sores, let us know beforehand. We normally prescribe Valtrex  500mg #8 (Directions: Take 4 pills (2 gm) before treatment and 4 pills (2 gm) 12 hours later).
  • To Minimize Pain:
    • Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment so you can have ample time to numb.
  • Minimize Social Events:
    • Schedule your treatment 2 weeks prior to social events just in case you bruise or swell.
  • Pain:
    • Lip Injections: We have the best numbing cream available. If you have allowed enough time to be numbed adequately, the pain is minimal. Many patients report they hardly feel pain, or they feel a slight prick.
    • Botox: Most patients don’t require numbing cream for Botox injections, but you are welcome to come early to apply numbing cream if desired.
    • Filler Injections (Face): Most patients don’t require numbing cream for facial rejuvenation treatment with fillers, but you are welcome to come early to apply numbing cream if desired.
    • Tip: Concentrate really hard on wiggling your toes while being injected. This will distract your brain from noticing the discomfort and decrease your anxiety level because you are preoccupied.
  • Anxiety:
    • It is normal to feel anxious, especially if you are new to injections.
    • Concentrate on wiggling your toes and scratching your hand simultaneously during the injections so you distract your brain from noticing the injections.
    • Some patients like to bring music so it can help them relax.
  • Infection Control:
    • The treatment area will be cleansed and prepped prior to treatment.
    • Refrain from touching the treated area for 24 hours after the procedure is done. The reasoning is that we do not want unclean hands to introduce bacteria into the injection sites. However, you may use your hands to wash your face with gentle soap and warm water the evening of your treatment.
  • Post-Treatment:
    • No exercising, hot yoga, sauna, jacuzzi, or rubbing the injected areas for 24 hours.
  • Results:
    • Results usually take 3 days to 1 week to be take effect.
    • Please note that Botox will not erase deep etched in lines, it will only soften them.
    • Consistent treatment of Botox (every 4 months) will diminish the etched in lines over time.
    • Jaw Reshaping (slimming): It will take at least 6-8 weeks to start to see the difference.
  • Touch-Ups Policy:
    • Asymmetry: On the rare occasion where a touch up for asymmetry is needed, it will be provided at no charge, provided you wait at least a week AND the touch up appointment is within 3 weeks of receiving Botox.
    • Insufficient Botox: We do our best to determine the best dose for you, but if you end up needing more because the treated areas are still moving, you will need to purchase additional Botox.
  • Exercise:
    • Avoid vigorous exercise for 2-3 days to minimize bruising.
  • Swelling:
    • Ice 10 min. on/off for 24 hrs to minimize bruising & swelling.
    • What you see right afterwards is product + swelling. What you see in 2 weeks is what was actually put in. The product did not “go away” fast, it’s just the swelling that went away.
  • Bumps:
    • It is normal to feel the filler right after injection. Sometimes patients will mistaken feeling the filler as bumps. Be patient, the filler will settle with time and feel smoother.
    • Occasionally, an actual bump may form. We generally are not concerned about bumps that you feel, because it is common to feel the product in your tissue. If, however, you have a bump that you see, please press on it to flatten it out between two fingers. It will usually resolve within 2 weeks. If it does not, schedule an appointment so we can dissolve the bump with a medication.
  • Size & Shape (Lips):
    • In general, 1 syringe is enough for lips to be a little plumper, but not enough to make lips noticeably larger. This requires 2+ syringes.
    • Larger lips actually require more product in order to see a noticeable difference because there is more surface area to fill.
    • We cannot change lip lines, nor change lip shape. Lips can be made bigger, and certain lip characteristics can be accentuated.
  • Longevity:
    • How long fillers lasts is determined by how fast your body breaks it down, and how much filler there is.
    • More product = Takes longer for your body to break it down = Results last longer.
    • Your results will not look the same for  the entire duration of the product. Each week your body will break it down and results gradually diminish.
  • Results (Nonsurgical Facial Rejuvenation):
    • Results are dependent on what your starting point is.
    • The more you you have aged = The more products you will need.
    • The more you do = The more results you will see.
    • Nonsurgical facial rejuvenation often requires more than 1 syringe in order to see an appreciable difference. How many syringes you do in one sitting is dependent on how much you need, how much you want to spend, and how fast you want to see results. Some patients will do 2-3 syringes the first session, and do 1 syringe every 6 months to continue improvement. Whereas other patients may opt to do 1 syringe every few months.
    • Most patients choose to maintain their results with one syringe every 6 months once they have achieved the level of rejuvenation they desire.
  • Lower Eyes Only:
    • Lower eye rejuvenation with fillers can result in bruising and swelling. Schedule this treatment at least 2 weeks prior to any social event.
    • Sometimes swelling will be noticeable a few days after initial treatment. Swelling will can occur on either one eye or both.
    • We recommend purchasing our Vitamin K/arnica cream, and physician strength arnica pills to help with bruising.
    • Lower eye rejuvenation requires patience. Because the skin is so thin and delicate under the eyes, it may take 2 weeks for everything to settle.
  • Sculptra Only:
    • To ensure smooth collagen formation, remember the 5/5/5 rule: Massage the injected areas 5 times a day for 5 minutes for 5 days.
